EURASIP BoD elections 2026
EURASIP is managed by a Board of Directors that is elected by the members. The EURASIP General Assembly confirms the election results and appointments. All elected Board members serve a three-year term, renewable once.
On December 31st, 2026, three current Board members will end their term: Maria Sabrina Greco (2nd term), Nelly Pustelnik (1st term), and Esa Ollila (1st term). As a consequence, three seats become vacant on 1st of January 2025.
Below you can find the biographies of the candidates (in alphabetical order).
The voting tool is available from August 20th, 2026, on the EURASIP membership portal after logging in (in the elections tab). The voter is invited to choose up to 3 candidates of their preference.

Mads Græsbøll Christensen

Mads Græsbøll Christensen received the M.Sc. degree in 2002, the Ph.D. degree in 2005, and the Dr.Techn. degree in 2022, all from Aalborg University, Denmark. He is currently a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Electronic Systems at Aalborg University. He has held visiting positions at Philips Research Laboratories, ENST, the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), and Columbia University.
Dr. Christensen is the author or co-author of four books and more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He has delivered keynote and tutorial presentations at leading international conferences. His research interests include audio and acoustic signal processing, with a particular focus on microphone arrays, noise reduction, signal modeling, speech analysis, and spatial audio.
His research contributions have received both national and international recognition, including IEEE Best Paper Awards, the Spar Nord Foundation Research Prize, the Danish Independent Research Fund Young Researcher’s Award, the Statoil Prize, and the EURASIP Early Career Award. He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Member of EURASIP, a Fellow of the Danish Academy of Technical Sciences (ATV), and a Villum Investigator.
Dr. Christensen has contributed extensively to the signal processing community through a variety of leadership roles. Within EURASIP, he was a founding member of the Technical Area Committee (TAC) on Acoustic, Speech, and Music Signal Processing, later serving as its Vice Chair and Chair. Most recently, he also served as Editor-in-Chief of the EURASIP Journal on Audio, Speech, and Music Processing 2019-2025. Under his leadership, the journal saw an increase in the number of submission and journal impact.
Beyond EURASIP, he has served multiple terms as Associate Editor and Senior Area Editor of the IEEE Signal Processing Letters, as Associate Editor of the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing, and as a member of the IEEE Audio and Acoustic Signal Processing Technical Committee (AASP TC), where he was involved in organizing the ICASSP review process for the AASP area. He served as Technical Program Chair of WASPAA 2017 and General Chair of IWAENC 2024.
Christoph Mecklenbräuker

Christoph F. Mecklenbräuker received the Dipl.-Ing. (Hons.) degree in electrical engineering from Technische Universität Wien, Vienna, Austria, in 1992, and the Dr.-Ing. (Hons.) degree from Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Bochum, Germany, in 1998.
From 1997 to 2000, he was with Siemens AG, Austria. From 2000 to 2006, he was a Senior Researcher with the Telecommunications Research Center Vienna (ftw.), Vienna. In 2006, he joined TU Wien, Vienna, as a full professor. From 2009 to 2016, he led the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Wireless Technologies for Sustainable Mobility.
He has (co-)authored around 370 papers in international journals and conferences and was granted 10 patents in the field of mobile radio. He served as associate editor for EURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing during 2007–2018 and proposed the EURASIP Special Area Team “Signal Processing for Communications” which is chaired during 2016–2018 (now known as: EURASIP Technical Area Committee “Signal Processing for Communications and Networking”). In 2026, he is awarded the EURASIP Technical Achievements Award. He served as senior editor for IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (2016–2025) and is editor for IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communicatios since 2023. Further, he chaired of IEEE SPS Sensor Array and Multi-Channel Technical Committee 2019–2020
His research interests include sparsity inspired array processing and 5G/6G radio interfaces (vehicular connectivity, localization, sensing, and millimeter waves).
Christoph is a Fellow of the IEEE, member of IEEE Signal Processing Society, Antennas and Propagation Society, Intelligent Transportation Society, VDE, and EURASIP. Esa Ollila

Esa Ollila is a Professor and Deputy Head of the Department of Information and Communications Engineering, at Aalto University, Finland. He also serves as director of the B.Sc. major in Information Technology and the M.Sc. major in Signal Processing and Data Science. In 2024, he received the Aalto ELEC teaching award.
He received the M.Sc. degree in mathematics from the University of Oulu, Finland, in 1998, the Ph.D. degree (Hons.) in statistics from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, in 2002, and the D.Sc.(Tech) degree (Hons.) in signal processing from Aalto University, Finland, in 2010. From 2004 to 2007, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow, and from August 2010 to May 2015, he was an Academy Research Fellow funded by the Research Council of Finland. From 2010 to 2011, he was a Visiting Post-Doctoral Research Associate with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Princeton University, NJ, USA. Currently, He has also served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Oulu, where he holds the title of Adjunct Professor of Statistics.
He is an elected member (2024-2026) of the EURASIP Board of Directors, where he serves as Director of Publications. Previously, he was a member of the EURASIP SAT in Theoretical and Methodological Trends in Signal Processing. He served as General Co-Chair for EUSIPCO-2023, has been a member of technical program committees of several conferences, and was an Associate Editor of the Scandinavian Journal of Statistics from 2021-2024. Since 2022, he has been serving his second elected term on the IEEE SPS Signal Processing Theory and Methods Technical Committee, where he chairs the Awards Subcommittee. He is also the General Co-Chair of the 2027 IEEE Statistical Signal Processing Workshop to be held in Annecy, France, from June 28 to July 1, 2027.
His research interests include statistical signal processing, optimization, graph signal processing, multilinear algebra, compressive sensing, sensor array processing and integrated sensing and communications. He has coauthored a text book “Robust Statistics for Signal Processing” published by Cambridge University Press in 2018.
Aleksandra Pizurica

Aleksandra Pizurica received the Dipl. Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia, in 1994, the M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications from the University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 1997, and the Ph.D. degree in Engineering from Ghent University, Belgium, in 2002. She was a Postdoctoral Fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) from 2005 to 2011 and a Principal Investigator at the Multimedia Technology Research Department of the Flemish research institute iMinds from 2009 to 2016. Since 2009, she has been a Professor of Statistical Image Modelling at Ghent University, where she founded and leads the Group for Artificial Intelligence and Sparse Modelling (GAIM).
Her research lies at the intersection of statistical image modelling, sparse optimization, probabilistic graphical models, and machine learning, with a focus on signal processing and AI methods that exploit structure in high-dimensional data for image reconstruction, restoration, and interpretation. Her early work contributed to wavelet-domain image restoration, Markov random field modelling, and associated inference methods. More broadly, she has worked on structured sparsity and sparse optimization for inverse imaging problems, sparse representation learning, and subspace clustering.
In recent years, she has expanded her research towards model-aware deep learning and explainable AI. The resulting models and algorithms have been applied in consumer electronics (video enhancement), biomedical imaging (medical image reconstruction, segmentation, and analysis), remote sensing (synthetic aperture radar imaging, hyperspectral image analysis, clustering, classification, and change detection), and digital painting analysis, art investigation, and conservation. This work has been reported in more than 100 journal papers indexed in the Science Citation Index and in more than 400 publications in total.
Prof. Pizurica has served as a Senior Area Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (2016–2019 and 2022–present), an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (2012–2016), and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (2016–2019). She has been actively involved in the organization of conferences in the signal and image processing domain, including as Technical Program Chair of IEEE ICIP 2026, Europe Liaison for ICIP 2020 and ICIP 2024, Technical Program Co-Chair of EUSIPCO 2022, Plenary Co-Chair of EUSIPCO 2024 and 2026, and General Co-Chair of EUVIP 2025. She was a member of the IEEE Image, Video, and Multidimensional Signal Processing (IVMSP) Technical Committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society from 2017 to 2019 and a member of the EURASIP Technical Committee on Signal and Data Analytics for Machine Learning from 2018 to 2024. Together with her team, she received the Best Paper Award of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Data Fusion Contest in 2013 and 2014, and the David Hestenes Prize from the International Conference on Applied Geometric Algebras in Computer Science and Engineering (AGACSE) in 2018. In 2015, she was awarded the biennial scientific “de Boelpaepe” Prize by the Royal Academy of Science, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium for her contributions to statistical image modelling.
Nelly Pustelnik

Prof. Pustelnik completed her Ph.D. at Université Paris-Est in France in 2010. In 2011, she became a permanent CNRS researcher at the Physics Lab in Ecole Normale Superieur de Lyon, France. From 2019 to 2022, Prof. Pustelnik joined the Applied Mathematics department (INMA) at UCLouvain to further develop her expertise and foster European collaboration in inverse problems and optimization.
Prof. Pustelnik delved into the theoretical and practical aspects of inverse problems solving for signal and image processing, investigating advanced multiresolution techniques and algorithms. Her current research activity focuses on inverse problem solving and physics informed neural networks for observational sciences (astronomy, oceanography, rivers dynamics at the global scale). Her goal is to develop architectures that leverage both domain-specific knowledge and advanced computational techniques to propose stable and energy-efficient methods for solving inverse problems.
In addition to her academic positions, Prof. Pustelnik has actively contributed to the scientific community through various roles in scientific management. She has been recognized for her expertise and contributions by the EURASIP Signal and Data Analytics for Machine Learning SAT and the IEEE MLSP TC, where she actively contributed to the development and dissemination of knowledge in machine learning and signal processing. Additionally, she holds the position of Associate Editor and the Senior Associate Editor for IEEE Signal Processing Letters and she also serves as an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Image Processing. Throughout her career, Prof. Pustelnik has actively participated in the organization of prestigious conferences and workshops, including EUSIPCO, STATOS, IEEE ICIP, IEEE MLSP, and IEEE SSP by assuming various responsibilities such as student chair, program chair, tutorial chair, and more recently financial chair.
For the past three years, she has served as an elected member of the EURASIP Board of Directors, holding the position of Director for Technical Programs and Membership. In this role, she leads initiatives such as webinars, summer schools, co-sponsored conferences, and the student committee. She is deeply committed to enhancing EURASIP visibility through social media, promoting balanced geographical and gender representation at all levels, and promoting excellence by cultivating a research culture that combines innovation, high performance, ethical responsibility, and sustainability.
She would be honored to serve a second three-year term to consolidate ongoing efforts and further support EURASIP mission and its community.
