EURASIP Awards: Announcement of 2019 Best PhD Awards
EURASIP, the European Signal Processing Association (http://www.eurasip.org), created and maintains a database of PhD theses at http://theses.eurasip.org, which is one of the World's largest in the area of signal processing. The database also keeps track of monthly downloads.

Every year a Committee of experts, nominated by the EURASIP BoD, selects up to three theses related to different areas of signal processing to be awarded. The selection process is based on the evaluation of the impact of the theses, their subsequent journal and conference publications and related citations received, on the download statistics as well as on the review reports of independent reviewers.

The 2019 winners are:

Ejder Bastug, for the PhD thesis “Distributed Caching Methods in Small Cell Networks” (CentraleSupélec, Université Paris-Saclay, France, 2015) supervised by Mérouane Debbah, Jean-Claude Belfiore and Mehdi Bennis.

Oliver Thiergart , for the PhD thesis “Flexible Multi-Microphone Acquisition and Processing of Spatial Sound Using Parametric Sound Field Representations” (Friedrich-Alexander-Universitat Erlangen-Nurnberg, Germany, 2015) supervised by Emanuël Habets.

Raja Giryes, for the PhD thesis “Sparsity Models for Signals: Theory and Applications” (Technion, Israel, 2014) supervised by Michael Elad.

On behalf of the EURASIP Board of Directors, we would like to congratulate the winners.

EURASIP Awards: 2nd Call Fellow Nominations
EURASIP Fellow nominations are invited with a deadline of October 31, 2019.

The EURASIP fellowship programme recognizes outstanding achievements of its members and volunteers. Each year, a select group of up to four signal processing researchers are elevated to EURASIP Fellow, the Association's most prestigious honour. Fellowships are awarded with a citation of the form “for contributions to …”, i.e. referring to a major long-term contribution to a technical field.

How to Submit Nominations

Any EURASIP member can nominate a colleague to be elevated to Fellow grade. Nominations should be submitted to the EURASIP Awards Director by e-mail (berberid@ceid.upatras.gr).

The nomination form can be downloaded from the EURASIP website at http://www.eurasip.org/fellows/Fellowship-Nomination-Form_Final.doc
The deadline is October 31st of every year.

The Board of Directors encourages you to share this information with your colleagues.

1st EURASIP-GAIPDM Seasonal School on "Learning from Signals, Images and Video”
Call for Participation in 1st EURASIP-GAIPDM Seasonal School on "Learning from Signals, Images and Video”

The European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) and the Greek Association for Image Processing and Digital Media (GAIPDM) invite you to attend the 1st Seasonal School on “Learning from Signals, Images, and Video”. The school aims at introducing practitioners to all the aspects of current and future digital media processing and analysis, employing associated technologies. Digital media refer to content found in audio, images, videos, written or aural speech, and biosignals.

To analyze such content, one needs to step into the fields of Signal Processing, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition/ Machine Learning, and Computational Intelligence. These fields are exactly addressed in the school. Besides theoretical advances, the attendees will gather practical experience through hands-on workshops and participation to hackathons. The seasonal school provides the attendees an excellent opportunity to develop skills in some of the most dynamic fields in processing and analysis of big data extracted from multimedia, social networks, and the web. Moreover, they can present their own research results and plans in the poster sessions and to interact face-to-face with distinguished academicians each day. A certificate of attendance will be given to all attendees.

Information for keynote speakers, topics taught, and hackathons can be found here.

The school is sponsored by the project PROMOTE , the MSc Program on Digital Media-Computational Intelligence , and the Artificial Intelligence and Information Analysis.
