Announcement of Educational Website Resource for Statistical Signal Processing
|
Five years in the making: Professor William A Gardner of the University of California, Davis offers a website resource for practitioners and scholars of statistical signal processing of cyclostationary signals. This unique website, www.cyclostationarity.com , to be maintained in perpetuity by the University and volunteer Website Content Managers from the international community, is more like an encyclopedic reference book comprised of many independent contributions than is the typical technical website, yet it benefits from a tightly integrated narrative that provides cohesion, careful pedagogical organization, and pacing. Some individual pages are similar to chapters or sections of chapters in a book, indexed by a traditional table of contents, and some chapters are compendia in their own right. The cross-referencing of pages and sections of pages is made more effective with the use of internal links. The external sources linked to are diverse, including published and unpublished documents, annotated slides from conference presentations and lectures, and even entire books, all tied together with narrative. These links provide free access. This approach enables a treatment that provides both depth and breadth of perspective. Historical perspective also is integrated to reveal how each area of thought evolved from its origins to the form it takes today. Users can choose the depth of treatment desired, and the attention given to individual subtopics and alternative possibly conflicting perspectives and even competitive if not conflicting theories. Paradigm shifts are explained and the value of persistence in the face of resistance by conservative thinkers is demonstrated. Some autobiographical content is also included where it may help bring topics to life. The content listed in the Table of Contents was completed at the end of 2022, with the exception of few subsections here and there, which are presently being finalized for posting.
