Newsletter – Vol. 34, February 2023

In recognition of outstanding achievements in the broad field of Signal Processing, the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) elevates each year a select group of up to a maximum of four scholars to “EURASIP Fellow”, the Association's most prestigious honor. The award consists of a certificate that will be presented to the following individuals during the Opening and Awards Ceremony at EUSIPCO 2023, which will be held in Helsinki (Finland) 4-8 September 2023:

Patrice Abry (CNRS ENS Lyon, France), "For contributions to scale-free temporal and spatial dynamics modelling and analysis in signals and images

John Thompson (University of Edinburgh, UK), "For signal processing advances in multiple antenna and relayed wireless communication systems"

Dimitri Van de Ville (EPF Lausanne and University of Geneva, Switzerland ), "For contributions to biomedical image and signal processing and application to functional brain imaging"

Abdelhak Zoubir (Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany), "For contributions to the theory and practice of statistical methods for signal processing"

Sincerely yours,

The European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP) congratulates the following colleagues who will receive the Society's prestigious awards. The awards will be presented at Opening and Awards Ceremony at EUSIPCO 2023, which will be held in Helsinki (Finland) 4-8 September 2023.

The Early Career Award is awarded to an outstanding researcher and engineer working within the technical scope of EURASIP at an early or mid-stage of his/her career, whose current work shows not only significant scientific achievements but also high potential to advance scientific knowledge through novel, timely and significant endeavors.
This year’s recipients is Alexander Bertrand, "For contributions to signal processing for EEG, neuro-steered hearing prostheses, and neural implants".

The Technical Achievement Award honors a person who, over a period of years, has made outstanding technical contributions to theory or practice in technical areas within the scope of the Society, as demonstrated by publications, patents, or recognized impact in this field.
This year’s recipient is Patrick Flandrin, "For seminal contributions to time-frequency and time-scale analysis at the interfaces between signal processing and nonlinear physics".

The Group Technical Achievement Award is given to the head of a group in academia or industry that has achieved significant contributions in signal processing and related areas over a number of years.
This year’s recipient is Sabine Van Huffel, "For establishing one of the leading European research groups in biomedical signal processing"

The Meritorious Service Award is given to recognize individuals who have given distinguished service to the Society in the form of significant contributions to the development of EURASIP, distinguished service to the advancement and pursuit of the technical objectives of EURASIP, or active cooperation in actions supported or sponsored by EURASIP.
This year’s recipient is Fernando Pereira, "For Leadership and Activities as EURASIP Director for Technical Activities and for Continuous Commitment with EURASIP over the last twenty years".

The Athanasios Papoulis Award is given to honor scientists whose work has had a major impact on various aspects of signal processing education.
This year’s recipient is Ronald W. Schafer, "For Outstanding Contributions to Education in the Signal Processing and Speech Processing Disciplines".
