Newsletter – Vol. 36, September 2025

It is my pleasure to warmly welcome all new members of EURASIP, especially those who joined the Association at the 2025 edition of EUSIPCO in Palermo.
This year’s conference reflected the continued vibrancy and excellence of our signal processing community, with 847 registrations and aan impressive number of 570 papers presented.

On behalf of the entire association, I extend sincere thanks to the organising committee: general chairs Fulvio Gini and Giuseppe Campobello, and technical program chairs Maria Sabrina Greco, Riccardo Leonardi, and Augusto Sarti. Their dedication and leadership were instrumental in delivering a memorable event of the highest quality. The programme brought us a distinguished inaugural lecture from Erik G. Larsson, inspiring talks by Mauro Barni and Michele D’Urso, and an industrial panel moderated by Prof. Marco Luise with Domenico Angotti (Open Fiber), Petros Boufounos (Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories) and Lei Lu (Huawei). These sessions sparked thoughtful discussions and inspired new directions in our discipline. I am also pleased to highlight the outstanding social program, which included a beautiful reception, a refined classical music concert at Segesta Temple, and an elegant dinner at Villa Dominici. These gatherings fostered collegiality and new collaborations across our community. Our students once again played a key role through the traditional Three Minute Thesis competition, the Best Student Paper Award, and new initiatives such as the student challenge and luncheon—underlining EURASIP’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of researchers.

Looking forward, I am delighted to invite you to our 34th EUSIPCO, to be held in the historic city of Bruges, Belgium, from August 31 to September 4, 2026. I look forward to welcoming our community again, as we continue to advance scientific exchange and friendship.

Finally, I encourage all early career researchers to consider joining the EURASIP Academy, our global initiative for structured mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities. More details about Academy membership and benefits follow in the newsletter item below.

Thank you for your engagement and commitment. We are honoured to count you among our members, and we look forward to another productive and inspiring year ahead.

With best wishes,
Steve McLaughlin

Following its successful launch in 2024, the EURASIP Academy enters its second year as a global career development initiative dedicated to supporting the next generation of leaders in the signal processing field.

The Academy is designed for early-career researchers who have recently completed or are close to completing their PhDs. Through mentorship, professional development, and active community engagement, participants benefit from unique opportunities to collaborate with senior EURASIP members and gain recognition in the EURASIP community.

The multi-stage program provides a clear pathway from Academy Member to Senior Academy Member, with increasing levels of responsibility and international visibility. By the final stage, members may join EURASIP Editorial Boards and take on leadership roles in EURASIP-sponsored events and committees.

Applications for the 2026 intake are open from September until the end of October. Admissions will be finalized in December, and the new Academy Members will begin their term on 1 January 2026.

Don’t miss this opportunity to advance your career! Please share this announcement with your colleagues and networks.

For more details and application instructions, visit the official EURASIP Academy webpage.
